Michigan Paternity Attorney

Skilled Paternity Lawyer Serving Wayne and Oakland Counties

My Livonia, Michigan, law office is a trusted resource for a range of family law needs outside divorce. On many occasions, I have counseled and represented people on paternity matters.

If you are a mother who needs to establish paternity and obtain an order for child support — or a father who wants to establish and exercise your parental rights (including custody in the right cases) — you can contact me to discuss legal options and how best to proceed with any type of paternity action.

Establishing Paternity to Obtain Support or Exercise Father's Rights

In Wayne and Oakland counties, paternity lawsuits are handled through the Friend of the Court. There are several ways to establish paternity, and the most common are:

  • Both parents willingly sign a document called an affidavit of parentage
  • Either parent files a paternity action — which may lead to court-ordered DNA testing, a proven reliable way of establishing (or disproving) parentage

In either case, obtaining legal rights to custody, parenting time/visitation, or child support requires going through the courts to get a judgment entered. I have knowledge and experience, and can handle all associated issues thoroughly and with maximum efficiency.

Caring, Efficient Representation for Men, Women and Families

I have worked with men and women across the cultural spectrum, throughout the Detroit Metro area and in communities from Novi and Southfield to Canton, Westland and Romulus. I recognize how important it may be for you:

  • As a mother, to establish legally who is the father of your child and exercise your legal right to receive child support
  • As a man who knows or believes he is the father of a child, to get definitive answers and — in many cases — gain an enforceable right to be involved in your son's or daughter's life, and to have reliable parenting time that does not depend on the whim of the other party

I am prepared to discuss any paternity concern or issue — including your belief or discovery that a mistake has been made, in which case there are legal ways to obtain a revocation. An attorney practicing family law since 1979, I emphasize honesty and being readily available and responsive to my clients.
